Norris Edges Out Oscar Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session
The British driver has outperformed Oscar Piastri at each of the past five grands prix.
Lando Norris narrowly beat team-mate and title rival the Australian for the top spot in the closing stages of practice at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
The British racer, who seized the championship lead from Piastri by just one point after his victory in the Mexican Grand Prix recently, beat the Australian by 0.023 seconds.
Earlier in the session, Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair for most of the session before sprint qualifying scheduled for 18:30 GMT.
The Red Bull star, the only other driver in the championship fight, trailing with a 36-point deficit behind Norris, finished in P17 as his team ran a alternative strategy.
Verstappen's team-mate the Japanese driver was the sole competitor to go off, albeit lightly, when he lost control at Turn Four early in the session.
Tsunoda slid over the track edges before spinning across the escape zone, and was blessed to escape with just a slight brush of the fence.
Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton also lost it, at the final moments of the session, spinning around through the quick descending corner leading to the last turn on to the pit straight.
The veteran ended the session in P19, one place behind team-mate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren pair were well clear of the other competitors, with Nico Hulkenberg's Sauber P3, 0.619secs off Piastri's best.
Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso was fourth fastest, with the Sauber of Gabriel Bortoleto fifth from Mercedes' Russell and the Alpine of Gasly and Williams' Sainz.
